අලූත් හලාල් හරාම් ක‍්‍රමය උත්තරීතර සංහල මුස්ලිම් සමගංයට බාධාවක් බව ජාතික හෙළ උරුමයේ නායක ආචාර්ය ඕමල්පේ සෝපිත හිමි පවසයි. රත්නපුරයේ පැවති සමුළුවක් අමතමින් උන් වහන්සේ මේ අදහස් පල කලේය.
‘දවසකට අපි සැවොම රුපියල් 20කට වැඩියෙන් හලාල් නිෂ්පාදනවලට වියදම් කරනවා. හලාල් නිෂ්පාදන නොකෑවොත් නරකාදියේ යනවා කියනවා. විවාහයේ හලාල් තහනම්, ජපානයේ මුස්ලිම් බැතිමතුන් නරකාදියේ යනවා ද?
මෙය ආගමික ප‍්‍රශ්නයක් නො වේ. ඇත්ත ඉස්ලාම් ධර්මය කුරාණයේ තිබෙනවා. අලූත් හලාල් ක‍්‍රමය සිංහල මුස්ලිම් උත්තරීතර සමගියට බාධාවක්. හලාල් නිෂ්පාදන ලකුණට ව්‍යාපාරික ආයතනවලින් මුදල් එකතු කරන විට ඒ ආයතන කරන්නේ එම මුදල පාරිභෝගිකයින්ගෙන් ගැනීම යි. කෝටි සියයක් එකතු කරන විට රුපියල් කෝටි 70ක් සිංහලයන්ගේ මුදල්.
සිංහල මුස්ලිම් සමගිය නැංවීමට නම් හලාල් නමින් සිදු කරන හරාම් ක‍්‍රමය නතර කරන්න ඕනෑ. ගහලා බැනලා හිත් අමනාප කරගෙන මෙය කරන්න බැහැ. බුදුදහම තමයි ලොව තියෙන නිදහස් ම ආගම.
හලාල් සලකුණ සහිත නිෂ්පාදනවලට ඇයි අපි මුදල් වැය කළ යුතතේ, මුස්ලිම් ඇමතිවරුන්ට හලාල් ඕනෑ නම් අපට හලාල් වර්ජනය කරන්නත් අයිතියක් තිබෙනවා. මධ්‍යස්ථ මුස්ලිම් රටවලත් බුදුදහමට හා වෙනත් ආගම්වලට එරෙහිව නීතිය තදින් ම ක‍්‍රියාත්මක වෙනවා. රිසානාට සිදු වූ ඛේදවාචකයේ දී පන්සල්වල බෝධි පූජා පැවැත්වූවා. ආගමික සමගියට හානි කරන්නේ නැහැ. එහෙත් මෙවැනි අන්තවාදී බලපෑම් අපි ප‍්‍රතික්‍ෂේප කරනවා.
අද අපට විවිධ ක‍්‍රමවේදවලින් ගහනවා, අපට මාධ්‍යයක් නැහැ. කරාටේ තියරිය මෙවැනි අවස්ථාවල දී අවශ්‍ය වෙනවා. කරාටේ ආරම්භ වුනේ පන්සල තුළින්, අපේ ආත්ම ආරක්ෂාව සඳහා සම්මා දිෂ්ටිය යොදවා ගනිමු. මෙවැනි අවස්ථාවල ගහ බැණගෙන පලක් නැහැ. කහ සිවුර ඒවාට ඉඩ තබන්නේ නැහැ.
හලාල් නමැති දුරාචාරයට ඉඩ නො තබා මුස්ලිම්වරුන් ශුද්ධවූ කුරාණයට අනුව කටයුතු කරන්න කියන ඉල්ලීම අපි කරනවා.’

In a bid to penetrate the International Market for Halal Foods, estimated at US$ 2 trillion per annum, the Government of Thailand is promoting their Country (where approximately 90% of the population are Theravada Buddhists and the largest minority are Muslims) as the ‘Kitchen of the World’ and has to this end provided the necessary support to establish an independent halal certification authority, The Halal Standard Institute of Thailand, governed by the Central Islamic Committee of Thailand. This move is perceived by the Thais as a ‘National Project’, the benefits of which will accrue to all citizens irrespective of religion.
However, in Sri Lanka, the move to provide halal certification was initiated by the ACJU ( a religious body of Muslim theologians) and has over the last few years attracted hostile and vituperative criticisms since it is largely perceived by Non-Muslim Sri Lankans as benefitting only less than 10% of the population. For instance, a recent highly emotive statement by the Anti-Halal Group asks the question “Why should 90% of the people pay for the needs of just 10% ?” How would a Sri Lankan Muslim respond to this rhetorical question ? The anger of these Critics is so intense that it blinds them to the fact that if Sri Lankan Exporters are successful in their attempts to penetrate and expand their share of the International Halal Foods Market, then the fruits of their success will cascade directly or indirectly to all Sri Lankans.
In the spirit of compromise, the ACJU should seriously consider divesting their Halal Division and using it as the embryo of a new independent Non-Profit Certification Authority established in conjunction with the Sri Lanka Standards Institute and the Ministry of Export Development & International Trade. The new Body should emulate the Thai Institute and promote themselves as engaging in the facilitation of an economic activity which will benefit Sri Lanka at large rather than serving the needs of a minority. This voluntary action on the part of the ACJU will go a long way towards negating the criticisms currently being leveled against the prevailing halal system and strengthen the image of Sri Lankan Muslims as being sensitive to the apprehensions of the Majority Community and being genuinely concerned about Forging Unity & Re-building our Motherland after 30 years of unmitigated hell.
